{"520931":{"#nid":"520931","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Honor Week: Focusing on Integrity at Georgia Tech","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EHonor Week, hosted by the Georgia Tech Honor Advisory Council, is a week dedicated to educating students on their rights and promoting integrity throughout the Georgia Tech community.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Honor Advisory Council (HAC) is made up of undergraduate and graduate students who serve as Honor Advisors and study all aspects of the Georgia Tech Honor Code. The group strives to improve honor awareness throughout the campus community.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p1\u0022\u003E\u0022Students often do not realize the seriousness of their actions,\u0022 said Kenji Tanaka, a computer engineering major and honor advisor. \u0022Something as easy as sharing code in a computer science class can land a meeting with the Office of Student Integrity. Students often don\u0027t know their options once they are accused of a violation, such as resolution with the professor, and that an accusation does not automatically mean a person is guilty.\u0022\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p1\u0022\u003EDuring the week of April 4, HAC will host several events to inform students about the Honor Code and enhance integrity throughout campus.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p1\u0022\u003EOn Monday, students can attend two seminars regarding integrity and ethics. The first will include a discussion of integrity and its importance in academic settings, and will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the Post Office in the Student Center. A second seminar will give students the chance to learn about the Georgia Tech Honor Code, engage in discussion about its parameters, and discover their own values. This session takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Room N210, the Howey Physics Building.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOn Tuesday, HAC and Alpha Pi Mu host a Business Ethics Forum with guest speaker Dr. Jeanette Miller, a professional who will discuss how ethics is used in the real world. \u0026nbsp;The form takes place in the Student Success Center Festival Suite from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and Refreshments will be provided.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWednesday is dedicated to stress relief. Students will be able to chat with members of the Honor Advisory Council, color, and pop bubble wrap from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center, near the Post Office.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOn Thursday, from 11 a.m. to noon, HAC is leading an Honor Code Round table discussion in Room 131 of the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions about the Honor Code and learn what the code states, with pizza provided.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to these events, HAC is holding a raffle throughout Honor Week. Students can enter by answering answer the question, \u201cWhat does integrity mean to you?\u201d HAC members will be in the Student Center listening to students\u2019 comments and entering students\u2019 names for a chance to win $5 Starbucks gift cards. Winners will be announced on Friday at 4 p.m. on the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/214974552195570\/\u0022\u003EHAC Facebook event page\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHonor Advisors are knowledgeable resources for students and faculty with questions about academic conduct. The main purpose of HAC is to achieve a more honorable academic environment at Georgia Tech through communication, collaboration, and action with students, faculty, and staff. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHAC uses the slogan \u0022mind the gap\u0022 to represent its commitment to bridging the gap between students and the honor code.
