ESL was established by the University System of Georgia in 2015 to provide an opportunity for full-time, regular employees to be involved in activities that promote education by providing eight hours of paid leave per calendar year for that specific purpose. Activities that promote education in Georgia may include:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAttending parent\/teacher conferences.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EParticipating in classroom activities, such as reading to a class or presenting on career day.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ETutoring students without receiving compensation.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EProctoring examinations.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAttending award and recognition ceremonies or graduation exercises.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EParticipating in field day activities or chaperoning field trips.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAttending open house functions.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p2\u0022\u003ETo use ESL, employees must have prior approval of their immediate supervisor. Institute policy requires that all employees be reviewed at least once every 12-month period. These conversations are important for employee development, advancement, and success at Georgia Tech. The process should involve a collaborative discussion to evaluate performance and establish 2016 goals.
