Head inherits the mantle for the 22-year old publication from founding editor, Dan Veach. Georgia Tech\u2019s J.C. Reilly will serve as associate editor.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOne of the world\u2019s best-selling poetry journals, \u003Cem\u003EAtlanta Review\u003C\/em\u003E has published the works of many Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners. The publication is independent \u0026nbsp;and self-supporting.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cSince I began working on literary journals as long ago as high school, I have dreamed of someday being the editor of a publication like the \u003Cem\u003EAtlanta Review\u003C\/em\u003E,\u201d said Head, who is an assistant professor in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC). \u201cHere is a publication that demonstrates the power of poetry \u2014 the power of art.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHead is an award-winning poet who has written three books of poetry \u2014 \u003Cem\u003ESassing\u003C\/em\u003E,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EMy Paris Year\u003C\/em\u003E, and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EShadow Boxes \u003C\/em\u003E\u2014 and co-authored the anthology,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EOn Occasion: Four Poets, One Year\u003C\/em\u003E. Her poem \u003Cem\u003EThree Moments\u003C\/em\u003E was the winner of the 2011 Oxford International Women\u2019s Festival Poetry Prize. Her scholarship in contemporary American poetry explores the connections between traditional text-based poetry and digitally-enhanced poetry. Her own digital poetry exhibits have been highly acclaimed. These include \u003Cem\u003EPoetic Rub \u003C\/em\u003Ewhich was featured at the E-Poetry 2007 festival in Paris, and her 2009 collaborative digital poem \u003Cem\u003EMonumental \u003C\/em\u003Ewritten with 12 other poets via Twitter and directed by Head from atop the Fourth Plinth in London\u2019s Trafalgar Square. The project was showcased in an online mini-documentary by \u003Cem\u003ETIME\u003C\/em\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI especially look forward to bringing traditional poetry together with digital poetry in ways that are not possible in a print journal by connecting our readers to a robust and interactive online partner site,\u201d said Head.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EReilly, who is associate director of undergraduate studies in LMC, is also a poet. She served as an editorial assistant for the \u003Cem\u003EPrairie Schooner\u003C\/em\u003E while in grad school at the University of Nebraska and as associate editor of the \u003Cem\u003EPlains Song Review.\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to the opportunity to reading new writing from across the world, and finding those luminous pieces that we can share in the \u003Cem\u003EAtlanta Review\u003C\/em\u003E,\u201d said Reilly.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHead and Reilly\u2019s leadership of the \u003Cem\u003EAtlanta Review\u003C\/em\u003E reinforces Georgia Tech\u2019s influence in poetry and arts. Two of just 24 endowed poetry chairs in American higher education reside within the Poetry@Tech program in the Ivan Allen College School of Literature, Media, and Communication. Poetry@Tech is the premier showcase for poetry in the southeast and brings to campus each year celebrated poets from around the world. Contiguous with Head\u2019s role as editor of \u003Cem\u003EAtlanta Review\u003C\/em\u003E, Georgia Tech has committed to archive the journal and to make available online the work of the stellar poets who have appeared in the journal.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHead and Reilly will transition to their new roles this summer.
