{"50234":{"#nid":"50234","#data":{"type":"event","title":"FutureMedia Sponsors Students for International Game Development Competition","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\n\n\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022MsoNoSpacing\u0022\u003EThe year 2010 marks the first time teams from the United\nStates will be participating in the international \u003Cstrong\u003EDare to be Digital\u003C\/strong\u003E video game development competition thanks to the\nGeorgia Institute of Technology\u2019s (Georgia Tech) FutureMedia (sm)\ninitiative.\u0026nbsp; \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp class=\u0022MsoNoSpacing\u0022\u003EFive teams of students from Georgia Tech, supported by\nFutureMedia, have already applied to compete in the world-wide contest\nsponsored by the University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp class=\u0022MsoNoSpacing\u0022\u003EThe teams may be among those selected to travel to\nScotland to compete against dozens of arts and science graduates and\nundergraduates from all over the world in the Dare hothouse at Abertay Dundee.\nEach team consist of five students, usually a mix of artists, programmers and\naudio specialists, who will spend 10 weeks over the summer turning their ideas\ninto fully functioning prototypes. They receive regular industry visits as well\nas a weekly wage, accommodation and equipment. Georgia Tech teams will receive\ncoaching, technical expertise and financial assistance from the FutureMedia\ninitiative. Enthusiasts can follow the progress of their favorite games online\nand interact with the teams via the Dare website.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp class=\u0022MsoNoSpacing\u0022\u003EIn August, competition prototypes will be displayed at\nDare ProtoPlay, a special event held as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe\nin Edinburgh, Scotland. The general public, as well as industry experts, will\nget to play and vote for the games. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams\nduring a special awards ceremony. Later in the year, the winning teams will\nattend the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Video Games\nAwards to compete for the coveted Ones to Watch Award. Last year\u0027s winning\ntitles covered a range of genres and included a 3D puzzle platformer, an\nadventure platformer and a single player 3rd person 3D action-stealth game.\nIdeas varied from objects shrinking, museum thieves on a mission and playing\nwith colors.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022MsoNoSpacing\u0022\u003EStudents interested in registering to participate have\nuntil March 28, 2010 to submit an application.
