(UPS) Information Services\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESeminar Title:\u003C\/strong\u003E \u003Cem\u003EDriving Innovation through Technology Convergence\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAbstract:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003ETechnology\u2019s role in business has evolved over time from novelty to administrative support to strategic enabler.\u0026nbsp; The next stage in the evolutionary path is market differentiation.\u0026nbsp; Intelligent use of technology drives strategic advantage.\u0026nbsp; Intelligent convergence of multiple technologies drives differentiation and significant competitive advantage.\u0026nbsp; \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EUPS\u2019s Transportation Technology Group (TTG) brings a broad range of technologies to bear in value-added solutions for the Airline and Ground Transportation business units.\u0026nbsp; Key technology focus areas for the TTG team include:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u201cBig Data\u201d\/Analytics\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EInternet of Things (IOT)\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ERobotics\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAutonomous Vehicles\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EMachine Learning\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EMobility\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis talk outlines approaches in use to leverage key aspects across multiple of these technologies to develop innovative solutions using examples from the Airline and Transportation business domains.\u0026nbsp; The Near Real Time (NRT) project is one example project executed in the \u201cBig Data\u201d\/Analytics domain capturing as many as 8,700 events -- pickups, sorts within distribution centers, transfers between transportation modes, and deliveries -- per second, 24-hours per day. The project forms a base for continued expansion of events and data collected from \u201csmart\u201d devices\/equipment (IOT) with the ability to add increasing levels of \u201clearning\u201d sophistication by proactively analyzing patterns in \u201cBig Data\u201d sets.\u0026nbsp; The end result enables multiple groups in the organization to simultaneously view via mobile devices the state of the operation \u201creal-time\u201d from different perspectives for better decision making in managing the transportation network and more timely, accurate responses for better customer service.\u0026nbsp; Key differentiators in the Transportation and Logistics industry.\u0026nbsp; \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong class=\u0022BodyText\u0022\u003ESpeaker Bio:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EKim began her UPS career in July 2000 as an Application Project Leader in the I.S. Customer Technology Portfolio in Alpharetta, GA. In March 2001, she was promoted to Project Manager, followed by a promotion to Systems Manager in July 2004. Kim relocated to Timonium, MD in 2008.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn 2012, Kim relocated to Louisville, KY and was promoted to Sr. Director, Applications Development, in the Transportation Technology Group in February 2013.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn this assignment, Kim was responsible for Hub and Gateway Systems, Ground Transportation Systems and Worldport Systems. She led the successful deployment of Feeder Efficiency initiatives including Auto Arrival and Departure and the 2014 TTG Peak Program include the deployment of new visibility solutions, Independent Contract and Expedited (ICE) tool and Dynamic Interactive Viewer (DIV).\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EKim was promoted to her current position in 2015 in Louisville, KY.
