477821 news 1449778223 1475896816 <![CDATA[EarSketch awarded $65,000 from the Blank Foundation]]> The EarSketch team was awarded a gift from the Blank Foundation this week for $65,000. Members of the team are: Doug Edwards (PI; CEISMC), Jason Freeman (Co-PI; GTCMT) and Brian Magerko (Co-PI, LMC).

As its website explains, EarSketch teaches core topics in computer science, music, and music technology in a fun, engaging environment. Students learn to code in Python or JavaScript, two of the most popular programming languages in the world, while manipulating loops, composing beats, and applying effects to a multi-track digital audio workstation. 

The EarSketch team is creating a summer camp model where high school students from EarSketch (ES) courses help run the summer camp for middle school students at schools in their cluster. It’ll be at Westlake in Fulton County this summer, the school where, Doug Edwards from The Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) served as the Math/Science Magnet Director. The GRA on this project will work on a blocks version of ES appropriate to middle school students.
