Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) continues to advance its goal of educating the campus while enhancing the use of alternative transportation among Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff.

One only need to step or drive onto the Georgia Tech campus to see the importance of this goal as many alternative transportation methods, including biking and mass transit, are already in action.

Bicycling

Bicycling is especially popular with students, faculty and staff cycling all over campus.

Campus Bike Share

PTS is working with GOTCHA to add a free bike share to Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech currently partners with GOTCHA Ride (Green Operated Transportation Carrying Humanity Around).

This quarter, PTS researched campus locations for kiosks and racks and prepared a cost estimate to purchase and install the equipment.

Campus Bike Master Plan

In partnership with Capital Planning and Space Management, PTS is working with Alta, a planning and design firm, to create a Campus Bike Master Plan. This fall, a draft was distributed to campus stakeholders for final comments.

The purpose of the Campus Bike Master Plan is to assist in establishing benchmarks and overall proposed bike usage on key campus corridors.

Partnerships

Creating partnerships throughout the metro area allows PTS to do more by involving field experts and sharing program expenses.

Last summer the City of Atlanta kicked off its bike-sharing program. PTS has helped identify preferred on-campus bike kiosk locations.

In addition, PTS is meeting with the Atlanta Beltline/Atlanta Streetcar Technical Advisory Committee to discuss a proposed streetcar route extending along North Avenue past the Georgia Tech campus.

The Cobb Community Transit is also considering the possibility of an Xpress bus route, which could link Kennesaw State University with Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, and other destinations.

Finally, the Midtown Alliance/Georgia Commute Option and PTS are discussing ways to increase MARTA card sales and ridership.

For more information on alternative transportation including how you can be involved, visit the PTS website pts.gatech.edu.
