466741 news 1446725402 1475896794 <![CDATA[Nunn Part of U.S.-China Dialogue in Beijing]]> Distinguished Professor Sam Nunn participated in U.S. delegation meetings with China’s President Xi Jinping that began in Beijing on Monday, November 2, 2015. The China-U.S. Track Two High-Level Dialogue brought together prominent retired U.S. diplomats and China officials in an effort to deepen understanding between the two countries.

Led by former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the U.S. delegation included former Senator Nunn, former Secretary of State George Schultz, former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, former U.S. Trade Representative Carla Hills, former U.S. Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Stephen Hadley, and former National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon.

President Jinping and former Secretary Kissinger both emphasized the importance of Jinping’s White House visit in September as a step toward strengthening the U.S.-China strategic dialog, boosting bilateral cooperation, and offsetting negative factors.

The talks come on the heels of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, which Jinping said will ensure China's economy will develop at a higher level and will provide more opportunities for China-U.S. cooperation. They follow a recent point of tension and talks between the U.S. and China navies after a U.S warship challenged China in the South China Sea.
