{"447591":{"#nid":"447591","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Flu Shots Offered On Campus Starting Sept. 29","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp class=\u0022p1\u0022\u003EThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people receive vaccinations against the flu soon after the vaccine becomes available. \u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003EStamps Health Services will be offer free flu shots for all Georgia Tech students who have paid their health fee.\u0026nbsp;Flu shots will also be available to students whpo have not paid their health fee, faculty, and staff for $25.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003EInfluenza or \u201cthe flu\u201d is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It is a serious threat to public health and can cause mild to severe illness, and, at times, can lead to death.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003EVaccines for the 2015-16 influenza season are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention of influenza in children, adolescents, and adults, including the elderly. Though there are several vaccines approved by the FDA in both nasal spray and injectable forms, Stamps Health Services only administers the injectable flu vaccine. This vaccine being administered at Stamps this season is a quadrivalent vaccine, meaning it includes four strains.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003EThose who received vaccines last year are encouraged to be vaccinated again. The body\u2019s level of immunity from a vaccine received last season is expected to have declined, and immunity levels against the four strains that research indicates are likely to circulate this season.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003EFlu clinics will take place on Sept. 29, Oct. 6, Oct. 20, Nov. 10, and Nov. 17. Students, faculty, and staff may attend any clinic to receive their vaccine, or they can call 404-894-1420 or \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/health.gatech.edu\/Pages\/Make-An-Appointment.aspx\u0022\u003Evisit the Stamps website\u003C\/a\u003E to make an appointment.
