{"44434":{"#nid":"44434","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Tuesday Talks:  Self-Organizing Logistics System","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ETuesday Talks, the Georgia Tech Faculty Speaker Series, presents \u003Cstrong\u003EDr. John Bartholdi\u003C\/strong\u003E, Professor in the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Manhattan Associates Chair of Supply Chain Management, and Research Director in the Supply Chain and Logistics Institute.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EDr. Bartholdi\u0027s lecture entitled \u0022\u003Cem\u003ESelf-organizing Logistics Systems\u003C\/em\u003E\u0022 focuses on the complex logistical systems operated by social insects, such as ants or bees.  This idea has been successfully adapted to coordinate order-pickers in a warehouse.  Using a protocol called \u0022bucket brigades,\u0022 the flow of work is smoothed and bottlenecks are removed.
