Title: Two Problems on the Intersection of Revenue Management and Statistics

Abstract: In this presentation, Dr. Zeevi will describe two problems (well, maybe closer to one & a half...)that lie at the heart of revenue management practices, and are addressed by suitably blending ideas from operation research and statistics. The first is testing the validity of a demand model, and the second is pricing under changing market conditions. The analysis and proposed solutions rely on ideas from hypothesis testing and non-parametric statistics, and change-point detection and sequential analysis, respectively. These problems illustrate possible roles of statistical techniques in revenue management applications, and concurrently indicate how revenue management considerations motivate the development of new statistical methods.
