Tsiotras will officially receive the award during ceremonies to be held this fall at Purdue University.
"Dr. Tsiotras will join a very distinguished group," said Dr. Thomas Shih, head of Purdue's School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. "We look forward to honoring him for his significant contributions in education and research at our OAE Awards, November 7."A native of Greece, Tsiotras has served on the Georgia Tech School of Aerospace Engineering faculty since 1998. He earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Athens before earning two masters (one in aerospace, the other in mathematics) and a doctorate (in aeronautics and astronautics) in the United States.Tsiotras's research has focused on autonomous systems, nonlinear, and optimal control, with an emphasis in several areas, including intelligent path planning, hardware-driven control specifications and algorithms, spacecraft attitude dynamics and control, and ground vehicle control under extreme and abnormal driving conditions.
In addition to this latest honor, Tsiotras was previously named an AIAA Fellow, and received an NSF Career Award. He belongs to the Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, and Sigma Gamma Tau honor societies.
