{"425121":{"#nid":"425121","#data":{"type":"news","title":"AE\u0027s Dr. Panagiotis Tsiotras chosen for Purdue\u0027s top aerospace alumni award","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAE Dean\u0027s Professor\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ae.gatech.edu\/community\/staff\/bio\/tsiotras-p\u0022\u003EDr. Panagiotis Tsiotras\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;has been selected by Purdue University to receive the 2014 School of Aeronautics and Astronautics\u0027 Outstanding Aerospace Engineer (OAE) award, the highest honor bestowed on that school\u0027s alumni.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETsiotras will officially receive the award during ceremonies to be held this\u0026nbsp;fall at Purdue University.\u003C\/p\u003E\u0022Dr.\u0026nbsp;Tsiotras will join a very distinguished group,\u0022 said Dr. Thomas Shih, head of\u0026nbsp;Purdue\u0027s School of\u0026nbsp;Aeronautics and Astronautics. \u0022We look forward to honoring him for his significant contributions in education and research at our OAE Awards, November 7.\u0022A native of Greece, Tsiotras has served on the Georgia Tech School of Aerospace Engineering faculty since 1998. He earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Athens before earning two masters (one in aerospace, the other in mathematics) and a doctorate (in aeronautics and astronautics) in the United States.\u003Cp\u003ETsiotras\u0027s research has focused on autonomous systems, nonlinear, and optimal control, with an emphasis in several areas, including intelligent path planning, hardware-driven control specifications and algorithms, spacecraft attitude dynamics and control, and ground vehicle control under extreme and abnormal driving conditions.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to this latest honor, Tsiotras was previously named an AIAA Fellow, and received an NSF Career Award.
