Our visitors received a briefing on AE\u0027s Vertical Lift Research Center of Excellence\u0027s efforts in advancing rotorcraft technology in the areas of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, structures, structural dynamics and vibrations, and flight control. They also received briefings on the UAV Research facility and the Aerospace Systems Design Lab.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn his inspiring seminar titled \u0022Technology Opportunities in the Rotorcraft Industry\u0022, Chris Van Buiten, Vice President, Sikorsky Innovations addressed the challenges facing the rotorcraft industry as declining budgets and increased profit scrutiny place a strain on rotorcraft original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).\u0026nbsp; Foreign countries are establishing their own aerospace industries and requiring local participation from these indigenous industries in order for OEMs to win business in their countries.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe products under development now, as well as the supply chain to design, build, and service these products, are more complex and global than they have ever been.\u0026nbsp; Managing this complexity is a key challenge in our industry.\u0026nbsp; Chris VanBuiten discussed Sikorsky\u0027s focused technology approach along three pillars - Speed, Autonomy, and Actualization - coupled with an over-arching company strategy that will allow Sikorsky to succeed and grow in the rotorcraft industry of the future.\u0026nbsp; His presentation addressed these opportunities and provided an inspiring insight into Sikorsky\u0027s technology strategies.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOur visitors also met with President Bud Peterson.\u0026nbsp; The President expressed his deep appreciation for the support and encouragement of Sikorsky in our educational and research programs.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"The AE School was honored to host distinguished visitors from Sikorsky Aircraft."}],"uid":"27456","created_gmt":"2015-07-09 10:25:22","changed_gmt":"2016-10-08 03:18:56","author":"Britanny Grace","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","dateline":{"date":"2013-05-10T00:00:00-04:00","iso_date":"2013-05-10T00:00:00-04:00","tz":"America\/New_York"},"extras":[],"groups":[{"id":"1239","name":"School of Aerospace Engineering"}],"categories":[{"id":"134","name":"Student and Faculty"}],"keywords":[{"id":"2082","name":"aerospace engineering"},{"id":"171450","name":"Sikorsky Aircraft"}],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[],"invited_audience":[],"affiliations":[],"classification":[],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":[],"contact":[],"email":["communications@ae.gatech.edu"],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
