Twenty-two member company representatives and 4 affiliate organizations attended the meeting.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe session was rich with\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ipst.gatech.edu\/meeting\/2012\/presentations.html\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Epresentations\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;from nine students and eighteen faculty members from IPST and the wider Georgia Tech community. Students also presented\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ipst.gatech.edu\/meeting\/2012\/posters.html\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E24 posters\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;at the reception. All of this information can be found on IPST\u2019s website.Each of IPST\u2019s three strategic thrusts\u2014operational excellence, new materials from forest biomass, and biorefining\u2014was the subject of a two-hour segment made up of faculty experts, students, and a panel discussion led by a member company representative. Special sessions on novel coatings and on combined heat \u0026amp; power impacts were also offered. Chris Smoak of Tech\u2019s Cyber Technology and Information Security Lab addressed guests at dinner about current Cyber Threats and Defenses. Other expert resources rounded out the meeting by providing guidance about how intellectual property is handled and how to create effective partnerships with Georgia Tech.College of Engineering Dean Gary May led off with an over-view of the capabilities of Georgia Tech. Executive Vice President-Research Steve Cross described the university\u2019s strategic plan\u2014\u201cinnovation on steroids\u201d\u2014to continue its drive to provide relevant solutions to industry challenges by teaching students to explore \u201cdisruptive innovation\u201d; he not-ed that IPST is a model of industry-centric research, and that it was the first to sponsor the Georgia Tech Innovation and Research Conference. Ron Rousseau, chair of the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, de-scribed IPST as \u201cdoing what we\u2019re trying to do at Tech\u2014solve problems the solutions to which would have real impact.\u201d Ken Stewart, a senior advisor on industry strategy, spoke of there being \u201ca thousand doors to open at Georgia Tech,\u201d and mentioned that navigation assistance and guidance are available to those who opened the door to the IPST portal.
