{"413051":{"#nid":"413051","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Liam Rattray Day of Service","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp class=\u0022p1\u0022\u003EJoin Generation Green, the Georgia Conservancy, members of Atlanta\u0027s sustainability movement, urban farmers and friends of Liam for the annual Liam Rattray Day of Service on June 13 at the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/c.gatech.edu\/1dxioer\u0022\u003EWheat Street Gardens\u003C\/a\u003E at the Truly Living Well Center for Natural Urban Agriculture in Atlanta.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn May 2014, more than 40 volunteers came to the Wheat Street Gardens on a rainy Saturday morning to honor the memory of Liam Rattray with hard work and inspirational stories.\u0026nbsp;Weeds were cleared from flower beds, seedlings were transplanted and compost was compiled in the effort to maintain the gardens at Truly Living Well, an organization and a place that was very special to Liam. Both friends of Liam and those inspired by his hard work and dedication to sustainability and improving the urban environment joined together in this first annual service project.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p1\u0022\u003ELiam grew up in Atlanta and was one of the city\u0027s most promising young environmental leaders. In his sophomore year at Georgia Tech, Liam founded Students Organizing for Sustainability (SOS) and laid the groundwork for Tech\u0027s campus garden, community supported agriculture program and sustainable dining committee. His reach extended well beyond the campus setting to community organizations that include Georgia Organics, Atlanta Local Food Initiative, East Atlanta Farmers Market, Truly Living Well Farms, Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance and many more. On Memorial Day 2011, just weeks after graduating from Georgia Tech\u0027s Honors Program with his bachelor\u2019s degree in public policy, Liam was killed by a drunk driver in Little Five Points while on his moped. This loss was a stunning blow to Atlanta\u0027s sustainability community and all the people whose lives Liam touched.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p2\u0022\u003EJoin us in honoring his memory.
