Topics included the use of models to optimize cost and performance, bleaching optimization, hemicellulose extraction, and brightening agents. Art Ragauskas of IPST, Magnus Paulsson of Akzo Nobel, and Gopal Goyal of International Paper worked together to solicit articles and edit the issue. In addition to articles authored by Ragauskas, Paulsson, and Goyal, Peter Hart and Ricardo Santos of MeadWestvaco wrote articles for the issue.
