If you find yourself with some down time this summer, here are some free (or cheap) things to do in and around the city.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESee a movie\u003C\/strong\u003E: If you\u2019re a movie-lover, you\u2019re in luck. Throughout Atlanta, multiple venues are hosting movies series this summer. Atlantic Station will be screening \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/atlanticstation.com\/2015\/05\/10\/movies-in-central-park-2015\/\u0022\u003Emovies in Central Park\u003C\/a\u003E every Thursday through August 13. Georgia Tech\u2019s summer movie series, \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ramblinwreck.com\/ot\/doddafterdark.html\u0022\u003EDodd after Dark\u003C\/a\u003E, is hosted in Bobby Dodd Stadium, with \u003Cem\u003EThe Imitation Game\u003C\/em\u003E showing on June 26\u003Csup\u003E,\u003C\/sup\u003E and \u003Cem\u003EFurious 7\u003C\/em\u003E on July 10. \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/weblogs\/atlanta-bargain-hunter\/2014\/may\/07\/free-outdoor-summer-movies\/\u0022\u003EView more movie series options around the Atlanta area\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGet outside\u003C\/strong\u003E: Although Atlanta is a major city, there are plenty of outdoorsy things to do. The Atlanta BeltLine, located in midtown, is a great trail to walk, run, and bike. Built along a historic rail corridor (and conceived by a Georgia Tech graduate student), the BeltLine links some of Atlanta\u2019s great neighborhoods, so there\u2019s also a chance you\u2019ll learn something new about the city as you explore.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPiedmont Park is another outdoor haven in Atlanta. This park is home to many events and festivals throughout the summer, so be sure to check its \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.piedmontpark.org\/do\/calendar.html\u0022\u003Eevent calendar\u003C\/a\u003E to stay up to date.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EA short trip outside the city, Stone Mountain is another popular destination for outdoor events and activities. Some require a ticket, but many are free once you\u2019ve paid the vehicle entry fee (bicyclists and pedestrians enter at no charge). Visitors can hike the mountain and nature trails at no extra charge, see several exhibits, and also enjoy Stone Mountain\u2019s renowned \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.stonemountainpark.com\/activities\/shows-entertainment\/Lasershow\u0022\u003ELasershow\u003C\/a\u003E, which runs on select weekend nights throughout the summer.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGet cultured\u003C\/strong\u003E: If you\u2019re looking for a way to experience Atlanta\u2019s culture this summer, check out some free festivals. The Virginia Highland Summerfest is coming up June 6-7, and the fifth annual \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.atlantaicecreamfestival.com\/\u0022\u003EAtlanta Ice Cream Festival\u003C\/a\u003E is guaranteed to be a hit in the peak of the summer heat in July.
