What is the Solar Impulse?

It is a a long-range experimental solar-powered aircraft that has been privately financed by Andre Borschberg, and Bertrand Piccard. Its goal is tobe the first-ever piloted, fixed-wing aircraft that uses only solar power to  circumnavigate the Earth.  It started its journey in Abu Dabai on March 9. When GT-AE connects with it, the Solar Impulse will be making its way to New York from Hawaii.
