<![CDATA[The Future of Electric Power in the South: Workshop #2]]>
This project is developing analytic materials and a participatory process for engaging utilities, regulators, and other key stakeholders in a dialog about the future of electric power in the South. The participatory process involves examining electric power supply and demand options in the context of a range of possible future scenarios of economic growth, technological progress, and environmental regulations such as EPA's proposed Clean Power Plan.A particular focus of the FEPS project is the role of distributed solar photovoltaics (PV) and combined heat and power (CHP) in the future of electric power in the South. The roles of solar PV and CHP will be stress-tested in our modeling, to inform research questions such as:
- What scenario assumptions provide conditions that look most favorable to higher solar PV and CHP penetration?
- How would stakeholder strategic approaches (e.g., infrastructure investments, policies, and regulations) affect the evolution of solar PV and CHP?
The long-term goal is to develop a successful process for evaluating a wide range of resource options faced by utilities in the South.
