  <title><![CDATA[In Memoriam: Mary Axford]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p class="p1">Mary Axford, librarian in the Library’s Faculty Engagement Department, died in her sleep unexpectedly on Jan. 26.</p><p class="p5">Axford served as liaison librarian for the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, School of Public Policy, and School of Psychology, and as interim liaison for the School of Modern Languages.&nbsp;</p><p class="p5">A 27-year veteran of the Library, Axford had widespread accomplishments throughout her professional career, including teaching GT 1000; designing and teaching discipline-specific and general interest graduate library workshops; coordinating the implementation and maintenance of Georgia Tech’s LibGuides; and co-authoring a popular blog called “Personal Knowledge Management for Academia and Librarians.” Prior to her tenure at Georgia Tech, she was an arms control analyst at an engineering firm.&nbsp;</p><p class="p5">In addition to a library science degree from the University of Alabama, she earned a master’s in history from the University of Alabama at Huntsville.</p><p class="p5">Axford was known for her unwavering dedication to Georgia Tech students, her intellect, her innate kindness, and her insatiable curiosity for emerging technologies and information trends. She was an accomplished reference librarian and worked with countless students over the years, providing expert research and project assistance across a broad spectrum of subjects and topics.&nbsp;</p><p class="p5">Axford was a beloved colleague and will be missed by her coworkers and friends, as well as the students and faculty of Georgia Tech. &nbsp;</p><p class="p5">Axford, a native of Selma, Alabama, is survived by her brother, John Axford. In accordance with her final wishes, her ashes have been returned to Alabama.</p>]]></body>
