365071 news 1421413805 1475896670 <![CDATA[Four More Fellows for AIMBE]]> Four members of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s bioengineering community have recently been elected as new fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).

Hanjoong Jo, Garrett Stanley, Johnna Temenoff, and May Wang – who were elected through a multi-step process with extensive peer review, followed by a vote of current fellows – will be inducted at the AIMBE Annual Event, March 15th, at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.

All four of the new AIMBE fellows serve on the faculty of both the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience.

With their induction, Georgia Tech will have 27 AIMBE fellows (BME Chair Ravi Bellamkonda is currently president of the organization’s board), quite a feat when you consider that AIMBE represents the top two percent of medical and biological engineers in the field.

"We have exceptional faculty who are being rightly recognized by communities beyond their research disciplines," Bellamkonda says. "It is a pleasure to have Johnna, Garrett, May Wang and Hanjoong on our faculty and each of them richly deserve this honor.  I am particularly pleased because their election comes at a time I am involved with the leadership of AIMBE."

Bellamkonda expects a re-energized  AIMBE to play a critical role in policy advocacy in the coming years, adding, "I am sure that the Georgia Tech-Emory AIMBE scholars will not only contribute but lead some of these efforts to enhance the innovation climate at the national level for biomedical engineering and technology."
