{"358631":{"#nid":"358631","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Krige Presents at 50th Anniversary of European Space Agency","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EKranzberg Professor John Krige gave a presentation to His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and representatives from embassies and European industry during an event on December 16.\u0026nbsp; The occasion marked the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.esa.int\/About_Us\/Welcome_to_ESA\/ESA_history\/A_history_of_the_European_Space_Agency\u0022\u003E50\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E birthday\u003C\/a\u003E of the European Space Agency (ESA). \u0026nbsp;Krige, with colleagues from the University of Palermo and the University of Rome, has led a multidimensional project on the history of ESA as part of the platform for reflecting on the agency\u2019s past achievements and planning its future evolution.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn his talk, Krige highlighted the importance of intra-European cooperation with examples drawn from his recent book \u003Cem\u003EFifty Years of European Cooperation in Space\u003C\/em\u003E (Paris: Beauschesne, 2014) that summarizes the results of the previous project and brings the history up to date. Krige illuminates the crucial factors that enabled ESA to compete and collaborate with the U.S. from a position of strength while adapting to the changing demands of a new 21\u003Csup\u003Est\u003C\/sup\u003E century geopolitical world order.
