“This committee is tasked with helping shape the research scene by setting priorities and needs for the next decade,” Nenes said. “It is a wonderful honor to serve on this committee, and it is exciting to work with a diverse and distinguished group of people.”

The 12-member committee is appointed by the National Academy of Sciences. After input from the community, agencies and stakeholders, the committee will report a research strategy and identify where additional investments in research infrastructure could best advance scientific understanding.

Nenes’ research at Georgia Tech focuses on aerosol-cloud interactions, climate change, and air pollution and its impacts on health and marine ecosystems.

This year he served as the conference chair for the American Association for Aerosol Research’s 33rd Annual Conference; the conference is the premier gathering in the field of aerosol research and attracts researchers from throughout the world.

Nenes also is an editor of the journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, and he is a Georgia Power Faculty Scholar and Cullen Peck Faculty Fellow.
