Leadership Reviews Campus Wellness

Leadership at Georgia Tech is in the process of reviewing wellness services on campus and will soon determine a direction for enhancing current programs.

The Office of Strategic Consulting recently completed a 60-day assessment of the advisability of merging outcomes and recommendations from the Mental Health Task Force and the Sexual Violence Task Force. The office presented its findings and recommendations this week to President G.P. “Bud” Peterson and the Executive Leadership Team for review.

Peterson requested this assessment after the concept of a wellness initiative was included in recommendations from both the Mental Health and Sexual Violence task forces, both convened by the president over the past year and a half. Included in the assessment are opportunities to enhance the collaboration and work of existing community wellness programs on campus.

“Over the next few weeks we will be reviewing the results of this assessment, along with the reports and recommendations from the two task forces and the Alcohol and Drug Education Task Force,” Peterson said. “We will be meeting with leadership from across campus to seek their input and feedback and hope to have a well-defined path forward shortly after the holiday break. Our goal is to create a safe, healthy environment for our entire campus community, and we want to be sure to do this right.”

For now, student support services remain the same, and students are encouraged to seek guidance and assistance from Stamps Health Services, Stamps Health Promotion, the Counseling Center, and the Women’s Resource Center. A counselor and victim advocate is on call 24/7 through the Office of the Dean of Students and can be reached at 404-894-2575.
