{"290641":{"#nid":"290641","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Popular Reading eBooks Now Available Through Library","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EStarting today, Georgia Tech faculty, staff, and students can borrow popular reading eBooks anytime, anywhere through the Library\u0027s new service -\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/overdrive.library.gatech.edu\u0022\u003EOverDrive\u003C\/a\u003E. \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/weblog.library.gatech.edu\/news\/files\/2014\/04\/500x300-NA-eBooks.jpg\u0022\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EUsers may browse the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/library.gatech.edu\u0022\u003Elibrary\u2019s website\u003C\/a\u003E, borrow titles by logging in with valid Tech credentials, and enjoy access on all major computers and devices, including iPhone\u00ae, iPad\u00ae, Nook\u00ae, Android\u2122 phones and tablets, and Kindle\u00ae. Additionally, eBooks can be read immediately on any device and all titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cOur mission in the library is to support teaching and learning at Georgia Tech and we believe that reading for pleasure helps to promote critical thinking skills and develop life-long learning habits,\u201d said Karen Glover, Access Services Librarian.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis new service is free for students, faculty, and staff. OverDrive is a sophisticated platform for downloading and reading eBooks. The Library purchased OverDrive with a generous grant from the Lewis H. Beck Educational Foundation to supplement its growing leisure collection. Currently, the library offers popular bestsellers, a science fiction collection, and growing DVD collection.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cOverDrive won\u2019t change the way our existing services work,\u201d said Glover. \u201cIt\u2019s just an added resource for browsing and reading eBooks that includes popular titles not currently offered. The Library is purchasing a one-year subscription with hopes of renewing in the future.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EUsers can browse and sample the library\u2019s eBook collection by using the OverDrive Media Station, an interactive, in-library discovery tool. The Media Station is a touchscreen monitor that will be housed on the first floor near the Library Service Desk.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EUsers can send any title discovered using OverDrive Media Station to their favorite device for checkout using a QR code, email, or SMS text message.
