  <body><![CDATA[<p>Redevelopment often brings fears of displacement from gentrification, but&nbsp;neglects the considerable benefits that redevelopment offers to poorer residents in suburban areas write June Williamson and professor Ellen Dunham-Jones, co-authors of Retrofitting Suburbia. "Since 2005 there have been more Americans living in poverty in the suburbs than in city centers. Retrofitting suburbia’s abundant and underused commercial properties and parking lots with a mix of uses, including apartments that support walking and public transit, does not displace anyone and can connect the suburban poor to jobs, schools, parks and affordable housing and transportation," the two authors argue.&nbsp;</p>]]></body>
