{"285781":{"#nid":"285781","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Read Across Georgia Month kicks off Georgia\u0027s Grade Level Reading Campaign","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EOn Wednesday, March 5th, 2014, Governor Nathan Deal and first lady, Sandra Deal, launched \u0026quot;Read Across Georgia Month\u0026quot; at the State Capitol in support of the governor\u0026rsquo;s Grade Level Reading Initiative, a push to have all Georgia third graders reading at grade level or better by the completion of third grade. \u0026quot;By prioritizing early childhood education, we ensure that our youngest students are positioned for future academic excellence,\u0026quot; said Deal. \u0026nbsp;The campaign for grade level reading in Georgia aims to increase the percentage of Georgia children reading at or above grade level by NAEP standards by the end of third grade from 35 to 60 percent by 2015.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning\u0026#39;s Bright from the Start program works with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and a number of education-focused non-profits and organizations to improve access to quality education for all of Georgia\u0026#39;s children.The Georgia Tech Health \u0026amp; Humanitarian Logistics Center participates on the campaign as a member of the Data Committee to improve access to quality healthcare, nutrition and education for children. The\u0026nbsp;HHL Center\u0026nbsp;analyzes systems and logistics operations\u0026nbsp;to on a variety of projects to ultimately\u0026nbsp;improve the human condition, and gor the campaign, it has identified six criteria for measuring the level of access to critical supports and services for improved childhood education. They include:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAwareness:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003EFamilies know that the supports and services are there and are aware of their value.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\t\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAccommodating\u003C\/em\u003E: Hours of operation, cultural and language barriers, etc.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\t\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAffordable:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003EPrices of the services meet the family\u0026#39;s income and ability to pay.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\t\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAccessible:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003ELocation of the programs and services, proximity to public transportation, etc.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\t\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAcceptable:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003EPrograms and services and their providers are acceptable to families\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\t\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAvailable\u003C\/em\u003E\u003Cem\u003E:\u003C\/em\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003ESpaces are available for all who are interested in accessing the programs and services.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe Georgia Campaign for Grade Level Reading\u0026#39;s focus on Access seeks to ensure that all\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nGeorgia\u0026#39;s children and their families have access to high-quality educational and supportive\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nservices that enable healthy development and success in early childhood and early elementary education.
