About the Show
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box.

Join three Georgia Tech faculty as they talk about human biology and cognitive development on a panel hosted by the John H. Martinson Honors Program. The panel will be on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026 from 11am-12:15pm in the Exhibition Hall Kirkwood room.

This event is open to the Georgia Tech community. Come with plenty of questions.

About the Panelists

Dr. Mengtao Lyu is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Georgia Tech's Hybrid Intelligence Lab and specializes in the science of how humans interact with their work environments, from cockpits and control towers to office desks and factory floors. Mengtao earned his Ph.D. from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where his research explored everything from pilot visual attention patterns to preventing workplace injuries using AI and biomechanical modeling. His work has been published in leading international journals and funded by organizations including DARPA and aviation innovation centers across Asia.

Dr. Oindrila Sinha is a neurophysiologist by training, passionate about exploring how the brain and body work together to control movement. With a background in physiology and a PhD in motor control from Penn State, she blends neuroscience with technology: using EEG, eye tracking, and biomechanics to understand how people learn, move, and recover. Her research focuses on building physiological markers of learning that could one day improve rehabilitation.

Dr. Chris Stanzione is a Principal Academic Professional and serves as the Faculty Director of the Explore Living Learning Community in the College of Sciences. Dr. Stanzione is a trained Educational Psychologist with over 10 years of experience in higher education. He is a well-respected teacher having received several teaching awards during his tenure (Undergraduate Educator Award, 2018; Eric R. Immel Award, 2018; Geoffrey G. Eichholz Teaching Excellence Award, 2024). His research area includes studying language and cognitive development in both at-risk and deaf and hard-of-hearing children.

The event is Friday, March 13th from 12:30pm - 2pm in the LLC West Commons Classroom, across the street from Eighth Street Apartments.
