Young, Jr. award, is honored at AIA National Convention","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ECollege of Architecture alumna Ivenue Love-Stanley was recently honored with the 2014 Whitney M. Young, Jr. award, given by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to an architect or organization that is committed to architecture for social good. She officially received the award at the AIA National Convention in Chicago.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ELove-Stanley has long advocated for minority inclusion and diversity in the profession, as well as working to champion the causes of inner-city redevelopment, urban-neighborhood revitalization and preserving Atlanta\u0027s architectural heritage. She grew up in Meridian, Mississippi\u0027s public housing -- a background that would ultimately play a role in her career. She came to Georgia Tech, and in 1977 became the first African-American woman to graduate from the College of Architecture. She then went on to become the first licencsed African-American woman to become a licensed architect in the Southeast.
