A talk by Anna Kim, an assistant professor at Georgia Tech's School of City and Regional Planning, on "Outside the Perimeter: Immigrant Alliances and Uneven Growth in Metro Atlanta".

Atlanta envisions itself a new Global City, with the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport a hub of economic development, spurred by the addition of almost 250,000 new immigrants from India, South Korea, Mexico, Ethiopia and other countries between 2000 and 2010. Data from the 1990, 2000, 2010 census surveys indicate that the metropolitan area has become more African American, more Latino/Hispanic, and more Asian each year. The trend among Hispanic and Asian populations is that they have moved beyond traditional metro destinations like Los Angeles and New York in ever expanding numbers, creating “new immigrant destinations” across the US. New destinations for minority groups mirror destinations for people overall – pointing to the importance of understanding the relationships between demographic change and population growth in the present and future.
