{"242301":{"#nid":"242301","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Rich DeMillo Appointed a Lumina Fellow","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Lumina Foundation has appointed Distinguished Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.luminafoundation.org\/about_us\/lumina_fellows_program\/demillo.html\u0022\u003ERich DeMillo\u003C\/a\u003E, director of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/c21u.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECenter for 21st Century Universities (C21U)\u003C\/a\u003E, one of four Lumina Fellows.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAs the nation\u2019s largest private foundation dedicated exclusively to increasing students\u2019 access to and success in postsecondary education, Lumina has defined its mission with a specific goal, known as Goal 2025: to increase the proportion of Americans with high-quality college degrees, certificates and credentials to 60 percent by 2025.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Lumina Fellows will work to advance Lumina\u2019s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.luminafoundation.org\/goal_2025.html\u0022\u003E2013 to 2016 Strategic Plan\u003C\/a\u003E by analyzing issues and recommending solutions, using their national media presence to influence the dialogue around issues of importance to Goal 2025.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFormer Dean of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cc.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECollege of Computing\u003C\/a\u003E at Georgia Tech, DeMillo founded C21U in 2011, and leads the unique institution that serves as Georgia Tech\u2019s \u201cliving laboratory\u201d for fundamental change in higher education. As the chair of the Provost\u2019s Council for Educational Technology, DeMillo is responsible for educational technology innovation on campus. Regarded as a national leader and spokesperson for the online revolution in higher education, he is frequently requested as a keynote speaker, most often to discuss his book \u003Cem\u003EAbelard to Apple: The Fate of American Colleges and Universities\u003C\/em\u003E, published in 2011 by MIT Press.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDeMillo joins three other thought leaders as the first group of Lumina Fellows for an initial two-year appointment.
