{"229521":{"#nid":"229521","#data":{"type":"event","title":"GVU Brown Bag Seminar: Elizabeth Mynatt","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESpeaker:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EElizabeth Mynatt\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ETitle:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWhat I\u0027ve been saying about you: GT\u0027s transformational research in people and technology\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAbstract:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOver the past year, I\u0027ve had the opportunity to describe research supported by GT\u0027s Institute for People and Technology and the aspirations of our research community in areas such as health, media, education, large-scale enterprises and humanitarian systems. \u0026nbsp;It is a tremendous privilege to talk about all the great work at GT and how we\u0027re connecting the dots and going the extra mile to see our research make a difference in the world.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn this talk, I\u0027ll bring some of these stories home and also share the reactions of the larger research and industry audiences. \u0026nbsp;I\u0027ll close by describing some of IPaT\u0027s activities for this fall and invite you to continue to be part of this transformation at Georgia Tech and beyond.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EBio:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EElizabeth Mynatt is a Professor of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech and the Executive Director of Georgia Tech\u0027s Institute for People and\u0026nbsp;Technology. \u0026nbsp;The Institute for People and Technology (IPaT) connects industry, government and nonprofit leaders with Georgia Tech\u2019s world-class researchers and\u0026nbsp;innovations to transform media, health, education and humanitarian systems. IPaT integrates academic and applied research through living laboratories\u0026nbsp;and multidisciplinary projects to deliver real-world, transformative solutions that balance the needs of people with the possibilities of new technologies.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDr. Mynatt is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of ubiquitous computing, personal health informatics, computer-supported collaborative work\u0026nbsp;and human-computer interface design. Named Top Woman Innovator in Technology by Atlanta Woman Magazine in 2005, Dr. Mynatt has created new\u0026nbsp;technologies that support the independence and quality of life of older adults \u0022aging in place,\u0022 that help people manage diabetes, and that increase\u0026nbsp;creative collaboration in workplaces. Dr. Mynatt is a member of the ACM SIGCHI Academy, a Sloan and Kavli Research Fellow, and a member of Microsoft\u0026nbsp;Research\u0027s Technical Advisory Board. She is also a member of the Computing Community Consortium, an NSF-sponsored effort to catalyze and\u0026nbsp;empower the U.S. computing research community to pursue audacious, high-impact research.
