The committee is chaired by\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EMary Shoemaker\u003C\/strong\u003E, an SPP student.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBrown, who serves on the International Panel on Climate Change, said that climate change is not simply going to be solved by big fixes in the power generation sector through renewable energy, but by significant strides in energy efficiency. Many smaller efficiency upgrades can yield significant environmental and fiscal benefits; however, people often use more energy in these instances, creating a rebound effect.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EA panel followed Brown\u0027s talk. Panelists included:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EMiroslav Begovic, professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EKim Cobb, associate professor in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EJohn Crittenden, director of the Brook Bryers Institute for Sustainable Systems and professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EErik Johnson\u003C\/strong\u003E, assistant professor in the\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003ESchool of Economics\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe panel discussed the falling costs of electricity generated through alternative means\u2014such as solar\u2014and the methods by which the public and private sectors can promote investment in these energy sources.
