{"188331":{"#nid":"188331","#data":{"type":"event","title":"de Sakhnoffsky Exhibit","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThrough Feburary 8, 2013 ~ The Illustrations and Works of Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky -\u0026nbsp;a charismatic Russian-born industrial designer and illustrator known for introducing streamlining to America.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECount Alexis Wladimirovich de Sakhnoffsky (1901\u20131964)\u0026nbsp; was educated as an engineer, began his career as a fashion illustrator, and was styling car bodies by his mid-twenties. De Sakhnoffsky\u2019s dream-like vehicle designs won him recognition the world-over. \u0026nbsp;He practiced in the United States\u2014including an office in Atlanta\u2014from 1928 until his death in 1964. \u0026nbsp;From 1934 until the early 1960s, he was also the technical editor for Esquire Magazine\u2014where hundreds of his illustrations appeared.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis exhibition includes original de Sakhnoffsky illustrations, photographs, and other documented examples of his work including: cars, commercial vehicles, bicycles, consumer products, juvenile products, furniture, and graphic design.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Cem\u003Ede Sakhnoffsky\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;was organized by the School of Industrial Design and made possible by the generous gift of Preston S. Stevens, Jr. BS Arch \u201852, B Arch \u201953.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFrom Preston Stevens:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cblockquote\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Count was one of the\u0026nbsp;Industrial Design giants of the twentieth century.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EI have the honor to have\u0026nbsp;helped nurture and assemble\u0026nbsp;this collection.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ESakhnoffsky\u0027s work is of particular interest to me because of the two auto design and restoration courses offered by Tech\u0027s Industrial Design School starting more than a decade ago and in which I have been involved.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECount DeSakhnoffsky was a pioneer in automobile design, having directed designs including those\u0026nbsp;for Auburn, Cord, Packard, LaSalle, Austin and American Bantam.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBy remarkable coincidence the collection was donated\u0026nbsp;by the Count\u0027s family at about the time the School of Industrial Design enhanced its\u0026nbsp;auto interest.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFor more than a decade the school and I have looked for the right moment to display this treasure and this\u0026nbsp;opportunity came with the College Of Architecture\u0027s celebration of the sixtieth\u0026nbsp;anniversary of the Heffernan Architecture building in which\u0026nbsp;I was one of the first students.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/blockquote\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPlease come by the East Archtiecture building to view this remarkable exhibition, you won\u0027t be
