Michelle Lyn, Ph.D., associate director of the Counseling Center, recently joined forces with John Stein, dean of students, and Kathi Wallace, director of Research and Analysis for Institute Communications, to present "New Approaches to Graduate Student Mental Health" at the 2013 NASPA Mental Health Conference/Alcohol, Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention Conference in Fort Worth, Texas. The team presented a research project that gathered data about the needs and experiences of graduate students at Tech and outlined effective mental health and support services offered to graduate students on our campus.

At the National Multicultural Conference and Summit in Houston, Texas, Kimber Shelton, Ph.D., psychologist, co-facilitated a roundtable conversation on "Prevention in ounces and pounds" which discussed cultural contributions to prevention planning and prevention practice efforts. During this conference, Kimber also had the opportunity to co-present with Mahlet Endale, Ph.D., (former Georgia Tech Counseling Center psychologist) on "Difficult dialogues in culture specific therapy groups" which explored within-group and between-group issues that arise in group therapy with culture-specific psychotherapy groups—specifically, African American and international student psychotherapy groups.
