New enabling and end-product technologies and the increasing sophistication of clients are being addressed by the growth of fundamental and translational research in design. This creates new opportunities and places new demands for the creation of an architecture that better represents and serves society and supports human well-being. The symposium is structured around distinct themes which resonate with major emphases of research and scholarship in our School: high performance buildings, design computation, evidence based design. The symposium aims to generate a focused and intense conversation with contributions from across the diverse fields of inquiry that animate the intellectual life of the School and the professional community. In this way, we hope to place in the foreground the creative tensions between rigor and imagination, research and design that are at the core of the School’s pursuit of innovation and integrity in architecture.

PANEL ONE [ 10.00 AM -
