The new policy reflects minor changes in lexicon of campus departments, with the most substantial change being made in the section regarding controlled access to alcohol at events.

The policy previously stated that during events on Institute property, alcoholic beverages could be accessible by either a central point of distribution, where IDs could be checked, or using another method of designating those of legal drinking age, such as wristbands. Now, the use of wristbands has been replaced with the concept of a “beer garden,” a designated area at an event where alcohol consumption may take place. Only those who have shown proper proof of age may enter such an area. 

The policy, which is distributed to students each year, also outlines possible sanctions for those students who are found misusing alcohol or in possession or use of illegal drugs. The Technique reported on proposed changes to the policy in September.
