{"161961":{"#nid":"161961","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Charitable Campaign Kicks Off Oct. 15","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EYou never know when you will need help, and no one knows this better than Jana Ragsdale.\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI\u2019ve been the Charitable Campaign coordinator for Georgia Tech\u2019s Army ROTC department since 1996,\u201d said Ragsdale, an administrative professional. \u201cIn 2004, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and suddenly found myself reaching out to the charities I\u2019d supported, because I needed support.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ERagsdale beat the cancer, and as this year\u2019s Charitable Campaign kicks off on Oct. 15, she will once again assume her role as campaign ambassador for her department. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI\u2019m just so grateful that those charities were there for me,\u201d Ragsdale added. \u201cThis is a great opportunity for me to give back in some way.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe 2012-2013 campaign, themed \u201cGive from the Heart,\u201d will run through Nov. 30. The campaign goal is $325,000. Faculty and staff can choose to contribute to more than 1,200 organizations ranging from the local YMCA to Habitat for Humanity International.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI think it\u2019s important to help take care of those in our community who need assistance \u2014 it\u2019s an important part of community to act like we\u2019re in this together,\u201d said Ron Bohlander, a principal research scientist in the Information and Communications Laboratory of the Georgia Tech Research Institute. \u201cI give to organizations including United Way and my church, and I am personally involved with or connected to most of the organizations I give to.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFaculty and staff are encouraged to make donations through \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.techworks.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ETechWorks\u003C\/a\u003E where they can elect to set up a payroll deduction or make a one-time credit or debit card payment.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThere will also be a pay-by-check\/cash option. Checks should be provided to unit ambassadors or to Hope Wilson, campaign chair.
