Among them was \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/cycleatlanta.org\/\u0022\u003ECycle Atlanta\u003C\/a\u003E, a Georgia Tech-developed iPhone application that tracks cycling routes and is designed to help the city with future cycling decisions. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOnce the free app is launched, cyclists tap \u201cStart\u201d to begin recording their ride. When the ride is over, they hit \u0022Save\u0022 and add details such as trip purpose and optional comments. Cyclists are able to see a map of their ride, distance travelled and average speed. The route is also uploaded to data servers, where city transportation planners have access to it.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cBy looking at cyclists\u2019 origins, destinations and route, City of Atlanta transportation planners will be able to see which roads are avoided and which are popular,\u201d said College of Engineering Assistant Professor Kari Watkins. \u201cThe city can use the information to make future decisions about where infrastructure is needed to create bike-friendly routes throughout Atlanta.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWatkins developed Cycle Atlanta with Christopher Le Dantec, an assistant professor in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cOne of the main reasons people don\u2019t frequently cycle is a lack of safe infrastructure \u2013 dedicated bicycle routes, roads with bicycle lanes and other designated bicycle facilities,\u201d said Le Dantec. \u201cThe city has a desire to put proper infrastructure in place but needs better information from citizens about where they currently ride and would like to cycle.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECycle Atlanta is a joint project among Georgia Tech, the\u0026nbsp;City of Atlanta Department of Planning and Community Development,\u0026nbsp;the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition\u0026nbsp;(ABC) and the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). It\u2019s funded through a contribution from ABC and the ARC\u2019s Livable Centers Initiative planning program. Georgia Tech\u2019s GVU Center\u0026nbsp;and the\u0026nbsp;Institute for People and Technology also provided
