How did the 2006 graduate of Biology and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EThe Sam Nunn School of\u0026nbsp;International Affairs\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;score so much funding for world travel and research?\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWilf visited campus in September to talk with students.\u0026nbsp;He has received a number of internationally prestigious grants and scholarships to futher his studies, among which include:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003EFullbright Critical Language Enhancement Award,\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;Syria, to study Arabic\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003EFulbright Scholarship,\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003EKuwait, to study views of women\u0027s rights among youth\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003EGate Cambridge Scholarship\u003C\/em\u003E,\u0026nbsp;University of Cambridge, U.K., to study biochemistry\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003ENational Security Education Program (Boren) Scholarship,\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003EAmerican University of Cairo, Egypt\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHe has a few suggestions for those applying for similiar opportunities.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0022I think it is important to have a clear vision of your goals and how you plan to achieve them. In the interview stage, it is important to convey confidence in your abilities while maintaining a modest disposition,\u0022 Wilf recommended. \u0022The best of piece of advice I heard was that you are competing with no one but yourself. Although there is a finite number of awards and scholarships, the real aim is to push yourself to realize your innate potential. Continually make an effort and be proactive and see where it takes you.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAs an undergraduate at Georgia Tech, Wilf participated in the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.internationalplan.gatech.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EInternational Plan\u003C\/a\u003E, requiring students to take internationally themed coursework, obtain six months of international experience (research, work, or study abroad), and learn a second language to a level of proficiency.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0022My most valuable experience at university was studying abroad in Egypt and travelling in the region, which helped me gain an appreciation for the unique opportunities that exist in the US, as well as provided a chance to learn about other societies and peoples,\u0022 Wilf said.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EA Gates Cambridge scholar, Wilf received his doctorate from the University of Cambridge, U.K., in 2011.
