Career Counseling

Georgia Tech Career Services is structured to help your student transition from first year student to career professional. Career Services can help your student with choosing a major that reflects their talents and interests, prompting for interviewing and interactions with recruiters, and preparing for the professional world. We provide guidance for their growth through a variety of services and events to accommodate your student’s evolving needs throughout their Tech career.

Click here for a summary of recommended action steps which follow your student from freshman through senior year. And remember - it’s never too early to start planning for a great career!

Individualized and confidential career counseling is one of the services offered for Tech students. Often career counseling is requested by students who may be questioning their choice of major or wondering how they may apply their major beyond graduation. Other students find it helpful to “debrief” after an internship or co-op experience; the factors they most dislike may provide the greatest insight about future career paths. The career counseling process begins with a one-on-one appointment designed to identify possible assessments and sources of information options that will be most helpful for the student to move forward in career planning. Typically the career decision-making process includes self-assessment of factors including personality, interests, values, ideal work environment, and skills; followed by information gathering; and then synthesis of the “who am I?” awareness as well as information about the market place. Students benefit tremendously by voicing what they know about themselves and identifying information necessary to bridge the gap to arrive at a decision that works for them. Then the student is better prepared to move forward, whether planning for a specific major to be followed by a career or reassessing options.

Students can call (404.894.2550) or email (Elaine.damon@success.gatech.edu) to make appointments. The first appointment is usually an hour and a follow up appointment is usually scheduled at that time.

For more information on Career Services including this falls events, visit www.career.gatech.edu.
