149021 event 1345746058 1475891977 <![CDATA[Budget Sequestration and U.S. Defense]]> CISTP and Georgia Women’s Action for New Directions (Georgia WAND) invite you to join a national security expert and a Georgia state representative for a briefing and Q+A session on the impact of the looming “fiscal cliff” on U.S. defense and national security. View the flyer here. This meeting will address how federal austerity will test U.S. defense strategy and programs, at both the national and local levels. Specifically, the panelists will discuss:

The current automatic budget cuts slated for early 2013, called “sequestration”
The implications of cuts mandated by defense sequestration on U.S. strategy, commitments, and programs
The impact these budget cuts may have on Georgia
Tangible alternatives to slated budget cuts, including clear areas of Pentagon waste
Prospects for reshaping the Pentagon budget to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of U.S. defense and national security over the long-term
