{"144501":{"#nid":"144501","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Institute Offers Free Lynda.com Training Courses","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EWhether you\u2019ve always wanted to learn how to use Adobe Photoshop or you\u2019d like to learn the ins and outs of switching from a PC to a Mac, a new free service offered by Georgia Tech can provide you with training on a variety of software and technology topics.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFaculty, students and staff now have unlimited access to all of the online video training services offered by lynda.com.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWith lynda.com, you don\u2019t have to sign up for any classes or sit in a classroom \u2014 you can take classes anytime and anywhere,\u201d said JulieBeth Golden, asset and licensing officer for the Office of Information Technology (OIT).\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECourses are offered in everything from home computing to business, and the service is free for all employees and students.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn 2011, the Board of Regents invited all University System of Georgia campuses to participate in a program that would provide lynda.com subscriptions to the institutions at a discounted rate.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe interviewed groups on campus that had used the services before and worked with the vendor to learn all that we could,\u201d Golden said. \u201cWhat we discovered is that this is a wonderful program that universities across the country use.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe student portion of the subscription is funded through Tech fees, while OIT is funding the faculty and staff portion. Unlimited use of the service will be available for a year, and if the service is popular, OIT will propose that the subscription be renewed.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ELynda.com offers more than 1,000 courses taught by industry experts. Courses are designed for all levels of learners and can also be accessed on iPhones and iPads.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EMany courses are complemented with exercises that allow participants to review the concepts they\u2019ve learned. Upon completion of each course, participants will receive a certificate of completion from lynda.com.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ENew courses are added weekly to ensure that training on the latest software and topics is available.
