{"113401":{"#nid":"113401","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Blueprint Honored a Dozen Times by Columbia Scholastic Press Awards","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ECompeting\nagainst peer publications from across the country, Georgia Tech\u2019s Blueprint earned 12 honors in the 2011 Columbia Scholastic Press Association\u2019s\nGold Circle Awards for its 2011 book title \u0022In Progress.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\nbook is in the running for the CSPA\u2019s Crown award, which will be presented at\nColumbia University in New York later this month. Gold and Silver Crown awards\nare given, and the Blueprint knows it will be getting one of the two.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe\nwhole book, against every other yearbook, made the short list, which is huge\nfor us,\u201d said Grace Stephens, a fourth-year building construction major and\neditor in chief for the 2011 Blueprint. \u201cWe haven\u2019t done that in 12 years so\nI\u2019m pretty proud of that.\u201d Stephens, now managing editor, has seen the yearbook staff grow from\napproximately 10 to 40 students during her four years at Tech and noted her pride in their success in this year\u0027s awards.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0022When Grace Stephens was elected editor in 2009, she brought a new passion to the book that had been lacking,\u0022 said Mac Pitts, director of student publications and media in the Division of Student Affairs. \u0022Winning 22 Gold Circle awards with her 2010 book in her first year as editor was just the confirmation that she needed to make her 2011 book a CSPA Crown finalist.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe\nBlueprint excels during a time of transition for all print publications, when\nmany are learning how to merge an online presence with the traditional print\nmedium.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWhen\nyou think about a yearbook you want it to be accessible in 40 years,\u201d Stephens\nsaid. \u201cI use the analogy that if I gave you an 8-track from 1969, you can\u2019t do\nanything with it, but you can do something with the 1969 Blueprint.\u201d However,\nthe Blueprint does publish each book online.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIn\nrecognition, Blueprint staff members will spend four days in New York to attend\na student conference with the College Media Association, joined by members of the Technique, and accept their awards. They will find out if the\nbook earned a Gold or Silver Crown at an awards ceremony on March 18.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EStudents\nin their third year or later are eligible to receive a Blueprint free each\nyear; books will be handed out in the Clough Commons the week before spring\nbreak.
