The 61st annual observance is designed to celebrate the achievements, opportunities and ambitions of the engineering community.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech\u2019s College of Engineering ranks\u003Csup\u003E \u003C\/sup\u003Efifth\nin undergraduate programs and fourth in graduate programs, according to the 2011\nedition of America\u2019s Best Colleges by \u003Cem\u003EU.S.\nNews \u0026amp; World Report\u003C\/em\u003E.\u0026nbsp;The College of Engineering also awards the\nlargest number of engineering degrees to women and underrepresented minority\nstudents. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ETau Beta Pi, Georgia Tech\u0027s engineering honor society, is\norganizing the following events:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EMonday, February 20 \u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EChalking Competition:\n\u003C\/strong\u003EStudents will create an engineering-themed chalk mural on Tech Walkway. To\nbe eligible for the competition, the student must complete the mural and submit\na picture by 11 a.m..\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EEngineers Week Fair: \u003C\/strong\u003ELocal\nengineering organizations, research professors and student groups related to\nengineering will participate in the fair from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tech Walkway. The\ngoal is to foster new connections between majors and to educate local high school\ngroups about engineering.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0022Can\u0022-struction:\n\u003C\/strong\u003EStudents are asked to bring 10 cans to participate in this event, held from\n2 to 3 p.m. on Tech Walkway. The team that builds the most creative and unique\nstructure out of cans will win. All cans collected will be donated to a local\ncharity.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003ETuesday, February 21\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESkyscraper Structures\nCompetition:\u003C\/strong\u003E Using common household supplies, such as paper, popsicle\nsticks and tape that will be provided at the event, students will attempt to\nmake the tallest structure they can in 10 minutes. The event will be held from\n11 a.m. to noon in Klaus 1447.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EPaper Airplane\nCompetition\u003C\/strong\u003E: Students will attempt to build a paper airplane out of\nprovided materials and compete to see which group\u2019s plane can fly the longest\ndistance. The event will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on the top of the hill at\nAtlantic\/Research Drive, near the Bunger Henry building.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EWednesday, February 22\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EHumpty Dumpty Drop\u003C\/strong\u003E:\nParticipants will construct a device designed to slow down the fall of an egg\nand bring it to the event. Devices may consist of any materials, but may not\ninvolve parachutes or similar devices specifically designed to decrease\nterminal velocity or acceleration in free-fall. The drop competition will be\nheld at 3 p.m. on Calloway Plaza.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EThursday, February 23\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EFilm Canister Rocket\nCompetition\u003C\/strong\u003E: Students will be challenged to make rockets out of a film\ncanister, Alka-Seltzer tablets, water and other materials that will be\nprovided, and maximize the launch distance. The event will be held from 11:30\na.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tech Walkway.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ERubik\u2019s Cube\nCompetition\u003C\/strong\u003E: Contestants will compete to see who can complete the Rubik\u2019s\nCube puzzle the fastest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tech Walkway.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EFriday, February 24\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EComedy Night: \u003C\/strong\u003EFour\nprofessional comedians will perform from 8 to 9 p.m. in the Clough\nUndergraduate Learning Commons in room 144.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAs one of the most highly respected engineering\nuniversities in the world, Georgia Tech will be hosting a variety of activities\nand events in observance of National Engineers Week, taking place Feb. 19-25.
