Georgia Tech Study Abroad programs offer students a wide variety of accessible programs suited to fit both a variety of academic disciplines and a quest for adventure. As a bonus, students not only earn course credits necessary for the degree, but can often save money by studying abroad.

The Shanghai Summer Program (SSP) enrolls an average of 50 students each summer, making it one of Tech's most sought-after programs. With the exception of the Elementary Chinese language courses, all courses are taught in English by Georgia Tech professors. As a faculty-led program, all courses are taken from the official Georgia Tech course catalog and earn regular course credits. Through the organized activities and cultural immersion opportunities, students and faculty frequently interact outside the classroom and bond as a group. The 2009 SSP offers a balanced mix of math and engineering required courses, Chinese language courses, and social science courses. The SSP is a tremendous value for out-of-state students: because of the overseas location, out-of-state students only pay $250 more in total tuition than in-state students. Once students experience the Shanghai Summer Program, they often want to return for further study. Currently, there are two opportunities for undergraduates under the Georgia Tech-Shanghai Initiative. Students can either enroll in the Chinese Language for Business and Technology (LBAT) program during another summer semester, or apply to become an exchange student during a spring or fall semester at Tech's partner university, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).
