Cooke\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nAssistant Dean of Students\/Director of Greek Affairs\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThere are 55 fraternities and sororities on campus, and naturally, it can seem a little overwhelming to students when they consider the options as they decide which chapter is right for them. The fraternities and sororities at Georgia Tech are broken up into four governing boards, each with their own unique recruitment and membership intake process. The following should help provide a brief overview of each governing board and related upcoming events.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECollegiate Panhellenic Council\u003C\/strong\u003E\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Collegiate Panhellenic Council (CPC) is the governing body for nine national sororities, seven National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities, and two national associate member sororities.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ECPC will host formal recruitment for the seven NPC sororities August 14-19.  Female students interested in joining an NPC sorority are encouraged to register for formal recruitment as soon as possible. Early registration is encouraged, and those interested in purchasing the Panhellenic Recruitment t-shirt must register and order the t-shirt prior to Thursday, August 6.  Registration for formal recruitment is online at \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.panhellenic.gatech.edu\u0022 title=\u0022www.panhellenic.gatech.edu\u0022\u003Ewww.panhellenic.gatech.edu\u003C\/a\u003E and will close at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14. Formal membership recruitment only occurs in the fall semester.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nThe two associate member chapters of the Collegiate Panhellenic Council will host their own recruitment period during the week of August 24. Associate member recruitment occurs in the fall and spring.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EInterfraternity Council\u003C\/strong\u003E\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the governing board for Tech\u00e2\u0080\u0099s 31 inter\/national fraternities. IFC hosts rush August 14-19, and registration is not required. Rush is an informal, relaxed period of time when the chapters host events with free entertainment and food to recruit new members for the fraternity.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIFC encourages interested students to visit as many fraternities as possible. To this end, IFC hosts rush tours on Friday, August 14, from 2:00-5:00 p.m., which gives students and parents the opportunity to visit 10 fraternities. The IFC will host a cook-out at 1:00 p.m. in Peters Parking Deck. While registration is not required for this event, we do ask that students and parents who are interested in taking the tours R.S.V.P. at \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.gatechifc.com\u0022\u003Ewww.gatechifc.com\u003C\/a\u003E.  \n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIFC will host the Rush Fair from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, as a part of Fresh Friday, an event for the entire freshman class sponsored by the freshman leadership organizations and IFC. During the Rush Fair, members from all 31 fraternities will occupy tables along Skiles Walkway so interested students can visit a number of chapters in one convenient location. At 8:00 p.m. that night, rush will begin at the various fraternity locations on campus.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ERush will occur from 7:00-11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, and August 17-19. On Sunday, August 16, IFC will move rush to 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. to allow parents to attend rush with their students. Since many parents will be on campus for \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.successprograms.gatech.edu\/plugins\/content\/index.php?id=29\u0022\u003EFreshman Convocation\u003C\/a\u003E that evening, this gives parents a time to meet current members, alumni, and parents of current members of the different fraternities. Lunch is provided by the fraternity chapters.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIFC also holds rush in the spring semester with most of the 31 chapters participating.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMulticultural Greek Council\u003C\/strong\u003E\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the governing body for seven culturally based or culturally interested fraternities and sororities. The seven chapters of the MGC coordinate and implement their own new member recruitment processes. MGC will host a barbeque on Monday, August 24, at 7:00 p.m. in the Curran Parking Deck. Students interested in learning about the MGC fraternities and sororities are encouraged to participate in the barbeque to meet all the members of the MGC chapters and learn about their intake process. Information about the Multicultural Greek Council and its chapters can be found at \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.gatechmgc.com\u0022\u003Ewww.gatechmgc.com\u003C\/a\u003E.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ENational Pan-Hellenic Council\u003C\/strong\u003E\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is the governing body for eight historically African American fraternities and sororities. There are four fraternities and four sororities in NPHC. The eight chapters coordinate and implement their own new member recruitment processes, which is called \u00e2\u0080\u009cmembership intake.\u00e2\u0080\u009d NPHC will host a barbeque on Friday, August 21, at 5:00 p.m. in the Curran Parking Deck. Students only have to attend one of these workshops which are offered several times each year. The first workshop for this year will be held on September 1.
