{"100451":{"#nid":"100451","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Gift to School of Biology from Alumna Georgette Aseff Samaritan","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe School of Biology is grateful to alumna Georgette Aseff Samaritan (GT Biology 1970) for her generous gift to the School of Biology. \u0022My gift will help the School of Biology make the most of valuable opportunities,\u0022 says Samaritan.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGeorgette Aseff Samaritan, born and raised in Atlanta, has fond memories of accompanying her father, George V. Aseff Sr., MS CHEM 1951, MS MET 1963, to the Georgia Tech Library to study as he pursued advanced degrees. When she followed in his footsteps and enrolled in Georgia Tech\u0027s School of Applied Biology in 1966, Samaritan was one of eighty women in a student body of eight thousand. In her junior year, she was proudly inducted into the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society. Her brother, George V. Aseff Jr., ChE 1972, also attended Georgia Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ESamaritan took the problem-solving skills she had learned at Tech and put them to good use in a successful forty-year career as a healthcare professional. After becoming a registered nurse, she worked as an infection control practitioner at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, where she was instrumental in stopping a highly resistant \u003Cem\u003EKleibsella pneumoniae\u003C\/em\u003E strain of bacteria. She later developed a Risk and Insurance program for the Shepherd Spinal Center, and was the Director of Risk Management for eleven years. Today, she serves as a Senior Risk Management Consultant at MAG Mutual Insurance Company, the ninth largest medical malpractice carrier in the United States.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFollowing the death of her soul mate and husband of twenty-two years, Arnold Holder, former Chief Engineer for Piedmont Hospital and the Shepherd Center, she made a deeply personal decision to leave a portion of her estate to the Georgia Tech School of Biology. \u0022I have been impressed by the School\u00e2\u0080\u0099s progress, especially the advances being made in Biotechnology. Magnificent work is happening there.
