Dynamics of RNA catalysts and ribo-regulators: Structure alone is
not an adequate descriptor of function
Special Seminar
The unexpected discovery that RNAs can function as enzymes or ribozymes suggested that RNA might serve as a catalyst in the removal of introns via splicing in eukaryotic genes. The group II intron ribozymes can splice via a two-step mechanism similar to the spliceosome but without the need for protein cofactors. We will discuss our current understanding of group II intron function based on X-ray structures and our own NMR dynamics studies.
